The workers of Augie's Coffee were illegally fired for unionizing in July of 2020. With support and funding from the community, Slow Bloom Coffee Co-Op was created and is 100% worker-owned. I initially donated the dog design in solidarity, but they quickly commissioned me for product design for their upcoming brick and mortar store.
Good Dogs Tee and Sticker
My local community got together and supported the fired employees as they fought to get their jobs back. At this gathering, I met a friendly doberman with a sign around his neck reading, "Good boys bite union busters". Inspired by Gord, I designed a less friendly junkyard dog in a rougher style than I normally use. It was fun to try something new and I ended up really loving the final look.
All Labor Bandana
One of my favorite projects to date, I was asked to illustrate a bandana to sell for fundraising. My only instruction was for it to include the phrase "all labor is skilled labor" and have a working class aesthetic. I loved the idea of incorporating florals into the design, so the worker is centered in a field of blooming flowers. In one hand she holds up a flag and in the other, a Slow Bloom mug. Their logo sits in each corner, blending in perfectly with the rest of the design.
